chocolate cake club.

Survival tip #1 for the upcoming holidays: join the club! The Chocolate Cake Club allows parenting to be happy, indulgent and relaxing {like the best of chocolate cakes} by offering a one-stop shop for busy parents looking for quality toys and gifts.

I know several mini chefs that would quickly embrace their very own set of kitchen gear. Cole and I were recently gifted the Playful Chef Kids' Cooking Kit and he's still carrying around the whisk and pastry brush. It's a perfect addition to any play food collection... and will prove even more exciting, I'm sure, when the miniature apron is covered with real cake batter after his first attempts of helping stir in the chocolate chips.

The kit comes packaged in a kid-sized vinyl backpack with room enough for plenty of culinary enthusiasm. $42.95

Be sure to browse other Chocolate Cake Club gifts by either need, age, or type. Shopping couldn't get much easier. My favorites:

amenity.

We've talked crib bedding a lot. It's a necessity that nearly defines a nursery's style. That's huge if you're into your home {and baby} feeling and looking a way that reflects who you are: maybe smart, chic, playful and refreshingly natural.

The Amenity nursery collection is soothing. Although the colors were a bit too 70s for me initially, I now really appreciate their neutrality. And more than anything I love being among nature... so why wouldn't my baby? Very organic. Very charming.

What are your crib bedding favorites?
{Thanks, Sarah!}

eleven.

"The world awaits. Travel well."

News to be excited about: See Kai Run has a sister company that's bringing the brilliance to shoes sized 9-1 {about ages 2.5-7}. The Eleven collection is vibrant, timeless and playful. Now I can feel better about Cole turning three. {It sounds like the collection will debut in 2008. A little anticipation is always healthy..}

hedvig bourbon.

The new Hedvig Bourbon New York collection is nothing short of in vogue. Coupling Scandinavian sensibility with fashion, Hedvig Bourbon puts a fresh new spin on traditional baby accessories.
Born and raised in Norway, Hedvig's childhood summers were spent on a small island in the Oslo fjord. Inspired by the island's fields of wildflowers, her first collection has a touch of whimsical with fresh colors and bold prints. The fabrics and materials used are of the highest quality to ensure that the stroller totes and accessories stand up to the rigors of everyday use. Each item is hand made with love in New York with careful attention paid to creating the beautiful details that make this collection fashionable yet practical.
The pioneer of her collection, the Lucas stroller tote, is designed by a mom for moms on the move.

Inspired by her own experiences living as a first time urban mother {in a four-floor New York walk-up}, the unique strap design hooks effortlessly to all strollers with solid nickel clasps that, with a leather strap, easily convert to an over-the-shoulder bag.
"I needed an easy way to transform the stroller tote and get Lucas, the diaper bag and groceries up the stairs."
With it's hobo-style shape {plenty of flexible with just enough structure}, it's near-silky lining and it's pretty button closure, this tote is the diaper bag that truly doesn't look like one.. but still stands mommy-approved with a plenitude {6} of deep and wide pockets, a disguised changing pad and enclosure, a generous zipper pocket, interior cell phone pouch and key-ring clip. Simply design at it's best.

Matching the stroller tote's chic, the Hedvig Bourbon collection also includes:

the amelie stroller liner: {a cotton terry velor crumb catcher that blends convenience, comfort and luxury.. easing both sticky summer heat and winter chill}

and the judabee diapers & wipes pouches as well as the santo changing pad clutch.

Every item in her collection is available in navy denim, sage, fuchsia or turquoise canvas.

For all those who want to be Bourbon beautiful, Hedvig is offering a incredible 20% discount to all Tangled and True readers, expiring December 31st. The discount is applied by emailing her at sales@hedvigbourbon.com with coupon code "tangled and true."

I honestly mark this as one of my top baby product favorites!

fluid.

I'm really hoping that this no-spill toddler cup works as flawless(ly) as it looks. I love the ergonomic, two-handed grip that is perfect for small hands and the angled spout requires less head tipping. [Dishwasher safe!] A boon indeed!

baby foot friendly.

It's funny to think about before having Cole; the times I would lay in bed dreaming {stressing} about what our children would look like. And I could always imagine him having dark hair and blue eyes and be a medium build {since that would mimic both me and Bradley}... but I never thought through feet. Turns out that Cole's feet are exactly like his dads: thick and square. And I can't help but laugh when I think back to the many times that it would take 10 minutes to get one shoe on because... well, slip-on toddler fans don't slip on so easily when your feet are hefty. [That's the truth. Hefty in the sweetest way.] Lace-up Converse are a bit more user friendly, but there still are those times where it seems a little absurd to have to loosen even the very last lace before his toes will fit. And because I just cannot compromise my 19-month-old's style- this is our routine.

And then... the lovely makers of See Kai Run came to my rescue. The truth? Not only are their boots "made for walking," but their shoes are made for real feet. Even the thick and square variety. They are designed for pre and new walkers {finally a stylish shoe in the smallest of sizes!} so their leather is the softest {even butter soft}, their soles the most flexible, and their styles unique and urban hip.

We have and love the Eliases. And finally those "adjustable velcro closures makes shoes easy to get on and ensure a great fit." Amen to See Kai Run! Tried and true.

sweetbeets

"The magic of childhood and life's simple pleasures is what Sweetbeets is all about." Sweetbeets' greeting cards were love at first sight. Letterpressed on recycled paper with vegetable-based ink, these illustrations turned 4.25" x 5.5" cards prove simply perfect.

[Unfortunately, they're currently available to wholesale buyers only through the site, but do have a no minimum order policy. Anyone know of a Sweetbeets retailer?? I'm seriously wanting these for future baby announcements!]

jimi wallet.

The Jimi Wallet {$15} is made of 100% recycled plastic and is marked compact, water-resistant, and colorful. "The wallet for people who hate wallets"... or the wallet for people with small children or the people who are looking for the perfect case for their collection of loose business cards. I just like it. [Available in 6 colors.]

think pink: md moms!

After talking with the team at MD Moms, reading their commitment to give back and viewing {and trying} their products, I'm genuinely changed: a bit more eager to do more; appreciative of thoughtfulness; glad for brilliance.

Today is the final day of shopping {browsing} pink and I'm leaving you with my personal favorite. MD Moms is a team of.. pediatrician mothers {Dr. Diane Truong and Dr. JJ Levenstein} who have created Baby Silk for your child.
"We were inspired by the needs of patients and our children to create the first pediatrician-developed skin care line for babies!"
They understood that babies need special products that are "gentle, pure and effective just for them." The Baby Silk line provides protection, relieves dryness, and promotes healing. With a scent made of orange and gala apple blossoms essential oils.. there is finally a product that not only preforms as carefully and effectively as your baby deserves/needs, but smells perfectly delicate and refreshing as well {all while being hypoallergenic and free of lanolin, mineral oil, petroleum, waxes, harmful chemicals and known skin irritants}.

The best of it all: MD Moms are charitable. Apart from helping kids feel good on the outside, they choose a children's charity each year to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of MD Moms products. Three cheers!

And for the pink:
a special Mom and Baby set was created to increase Breast Cancer Awareness and benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. We {heart} Moms, $58, "bring{s} comfort, luxury and hope into someone's life."

The set includes:
1. Baby Silk Delicate Skin Comfort Silky Liquid Powder-
soothe those chafed zones on mom's body, protect those lovely folds on baby
2. Baby Silk Daily Skin Protection Moisturizing Balm-
moisturize and protect mom and baby's skin, and enjoy it as massage cream
3. Baby Silk Soothing Bottom Relief Diaper Rash Cream-
mom can use this on her dry, chapped skin. protect and treat baby's diaper area daily
4. Breast Self Examination Shower Card
most breast lumps are discovered during monthly self exams. use our shower card to remind you to examine your breasts monthly.

Can you think of a better gift for the mother, sister, grandmother or friend in your life? That would be tricky...

mira.

I'm looking! This "Haute couture" rickrack pillow is beautiful. 'Tis the season for green, teals and blues.

hot.

Maybe it's a little awkward that we're getting personal, but this is neat! This massage oil candle can act as both mood lighting and massage oil ["the natural wax blends have low melting points; when lit, they melt into a warm, skin-nourishing emollient wax.."]. The square design and subtle pouring spout are especially pretty.

Available in Lychee + Lapsang, Habanero + Grapefruit, Ginger + Date, Coriander + Quince, Truffle + Gardenia, and Saffron + Neroli. $48.

sleeping.

I do dream in vivid color. My signature decorating style is bold: pillows, sheets, bedding, dinnerware, etc. And as often as I can change around linens and accessories for a fresh, new look-- I do! {Which admittedly is not as often as I would like.} The good news is.. we've moving come November 6th. And {since the house is furnished} we're in need of king bedding. I'm on the search. So far, my favorite is the orange Haya Bedding at Anthropologie.

Their quilts are unusually soft and cozy. Necessary, really, for a good nights sleep. And the price is pretty reasonable. Next.. will be the search for soft, affordable sheets. Any ideas? {bedding or sheets??}

think pink: origins.

Origins is healing. It's always been my splurge when I feel like I need a break. It smells clean and feels pure and works well (makeup, skin care, gumballs- you name it..). And their recent release of the Origins Organics line is something to be excited about: "the first full line of prestige skin, body and hair care products to be certified under the consistency stringent standards of the USDA National Organic program."

In more than one way, the company is about making a difference. Apart from their products being truly changing on many levels, Make a Difference Rejuvenating Hand Treatment gives back.
"The resurrection plant, Rose of Jericho, plus skin-reviving Trehalose and Sea Haricots work hand-in-hand to help hardworking skin rebound and recover from dramatic dehydration. An ancient Oceanic Flora helps repair damage due to UV exposure, daily use and constant abuse. Scutellaria Extract helps even out skin tone. Meadowfoam Seed Oil lavishes hands that have it rough with long-lasting smoothness that's never greasy. Chapped, cracked, splotchy skin resumes a softer, brighter, more evenly toned, more youthfully textured look and feel. Leaves an elegant, silky feel on skin. Forms an undetectable barrier. Dermatologist Tested."
I think that's the way to do it.

Dishing the pink:
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, throughout October, Origins will donate a portion of the proceeds from every Make A Difference™ Rejuvenating hand treatment sold in North America in support of our $35,000 donation to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

willarie.

I haven't gotten too comfortable on etsy yet.. which is probably a good thing! [i.e. I need to get in the habit of browsing more often..] But being tipped about Willarie's shop is motivating enough. It's so European and vintage and put together. I love dreaming about pairing striped tights with floral printed smocks or jumpers some day. When I have a girl.

sheepy.

I would be very happy if this baby rug became a part of Cole's nursery. It's 100% natural lamb's wool: It's allergen free and doesn't shed. And, because it's made from 100% natural lamb's wool, it wicks moisture and is a natural insulator, staying warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Its snuggly softness also has a practical side: It's also machine washable.

slippers.

I like when friends write me. An encouraging email beats Belgian hot chocolate with giant Whole Foods marshmallows. It makes for a good day. Amy asked, "just wondering if you have found any websites with cute (and not obnoxious) toddler slippers - I've been looking somewhat unsuccessfully for a pair for {my son}.."

It was a search, Amy. But hopefully this will turn up a couple of good ideas. {I cannot handle cold feet!}

first: Bobux Chocolate Crush slippers, $33
"very soft smooth leather inside and a soft, tight wool outside. It has a suede leather sole for slip-resistant, flexible protection."

second: Garnet Hill's Boiled Wool Slipper Boot, $38
"Traditional European slipper boots of cozy boiled wool have been delightfully transformed into a menagerie of whimsical designs": Dog, Bunny, Mermaid, Penguin, Unicorn, Ballerina, Elephant, Dragon, Shark, Frog.

third: Patagonia Baby Synchilla Booties, $25
"Step into the warmth of earth-friendly poly fleece by Patagonia. Designed with a dual-snap closure for a snug fit, these updated booties keep little feet and toes toasty warm. The tri-layered sole provides extra cushioning, while subtle treads prevent slipping. Nylon facing reinforces the heel area for durable wear."

finally: sock monkey slippers, $18
"They're machine washable for easy care and can even be dried in the dryer, for a thoroughly practical dose of nostalgia."

Any others??

think pink: fretzels by Jill.

"...one bite and you'll never forget."

Admitted chocoholic- Jill Frechtman- appreciates the combination of salty and sweet. Thank goodness because her young love for white chocolate-dipped-pretzels lead to making them at home with her mom and later experimenting with creative candy toppings. Fretzels by Jill were born soon after Jill gifted her chocolate covered pretzels at a holiday party {during her career as an art director in New York City}. They "proved to be so irresistible that raving turned into encouragement." They're now available to the masses.. in white, milk, dark and butterscotch chocolate varieties. All individually hand dipped and adorned in toffee, sprinkles, M&Ms or Oreos to name a few. They prove to be beautiful food with beautiful flavor {arriving perfectly huge, fresh and crunchy!}.

Dishing the pink:
The Fretzels Pink Box , $26:

$5 from the sale of each nine-piece assortment of pink Fretzels, complete with a pink satin awareness ribbon, will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Help spread awareness and help find a cure...Sweetly!

think pink: livie & luca

10% from all proceeds from the sale of Livie's Red Wings will go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Society.

They're modern, funky, lightweight, soft, flexible and affordable. $37.50.

think pink!

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month {an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure}, I hope that now, more than ever, we can think pink: extend beyond those things that cause divisions and simply unite as women.

Why pink? Margaret Welch, director of the Color Association of the United States, says that “pink is the quintessential female color. The profile on pink is playful, life-affirming. We have studies as to its calming effect, its quieting effect, its lessening of stress. (Pastel pink) is a shade known to be health-giving.." [Read the history of the pink ribbon here.]

Some may say that pink, then, is everything that cancer is not. But to support the cause, "NABCO’s executive director, Amy Langer, told The New York Times Magazine in 1996 that breast cancer, unlike other health threats to women, was 'loaded': 'It’s about body image, it’s about nurturing—it’s certainly about femininity.' For women who feel this way, who experience cancer as predominantly a loss of womanhood, what better color to pin on than pink—girlie, pretty, healthy pink?" [via Think Before you Pink]

After reading dozens of articles and watching lives who have been affected by breast cancer, I'm left with an appreciation for life and awareness and those who work so hard to provide/fight for both. I believe that womanhood embodies power and strength and I want to further that. More than anything, I'm glad for the opportunity to help even if it means doing something as small as shopping for the cause.

This week's focus will be all things.. pink: products in various shades {of pink} that support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. [Guilt-free shopping!] Enjoy.

{paper for tots}

cake milk paperie makes me happy!

The thoughts of tracing letters with giant pencils are good ones. I think this personalized "tot" stationary {available in 9 font options.. all printed on buttercream flats with licorice ink and your choice of wildly vibrant envelopes} can only encourage the same. $35 for a set of 20.

DaBib

With parenting comes the search for the bib. The perfect bib. Plastic {easy wipe down} pushes the lead scare and {usually} mandatory hand wash. With cloth- inevitable stains. And then coverage, secure fastening and style all come into play. I have a handful I like. But a perfect fit?

I'm not just throwing another bib at you. DaBib is truly a breakthrough in bib design: the patent pending {adjustable} scrunch collar, hide away food pouch and extra large hour glass shape stop all mess. And the Hugs {micro fiber terry front with a complimentary waterproof backing} and Giggles {bib body is waterproof} designs both are made of environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and completely lead-free materials. Wow! Finally, a bib that’s got your baby covered. I love clean. And the idea that the scrunchie {of sorts} is making a come back.
