eating and thanking

Would I ever spend $75 on a 3-piece dish set for my daughter? Probably not. But, Kate Spade has a couple fun sets. Nice modern, clean designs. I like.

Something I would buy? The Quip Thank You Cards. The cards add a fresh voice to traditional thank you cards with different phrases like, "It's Perfect", "You shouldn't have, but I'm glad you did" or "You've done it again". Love them.

baby books

Check these baby books out. Aren't they beautiful? I love them. I found them when I was pregnant and my mom ended up getting me a different one so I never went back to the site. Now that it has been a year and I've been filling it out, I'm starting to feel the way the owner, Jennifer Allers, describes her experience...

When my daughter was born, I searched high and low for a baby keepsake book that she would be proud to take to first grade show and tell and to someday share with her children when she had a family of her own. The concept was simple, finding it was not. The birth of Poppy & Mimi was developed upon a very basic principle: to provide a baby book that captured those once in a lifetime memories and to preserve it in a way that represented your child's individuality. Our fabric covers range from traditional toile to funky leopard.

I want something that captures Avery's personality. It seems that the Poppy and Mimi Keepsake Books have found a way to do just that, unique for each child {and parent} while at the same time offering simple space to share your own moments in the life of your baby.

vacuum.

I couldn't decide which blog to post this on because it's so exciting, but I figured that this audience would have a little bit more enthusiasm. So, you're the first to hear that....I bought the Mini Cooper (a very cool car) of vacuums today. The story goes like this:

I'm a vacuumer. I could survive without a vacuum about as long as an average person could survive without the Internet. Not long. I would go crazy. I don't like when I can see anything on my carpet. And going two days between vacuuming my carpet is pushing it. But that's what I do...to feel a bit normal. Anyway, this morning I pulled out the vacuum [Hoover Windtunnel Plus, canister] that we've had for about three years now and it was working and then not working. Starting and stopping. When the sparks started flying {too close to the sea foam green carpet} and I couldn't find the original receipt or warranty just to see if maybe..., I started doing a little bit of vacuum research. I found this article after a Google search and got really excited about fulfilling a pretty reasonable dream: owning a Dyson! So,I studied the Dyson DC07
(the least expensive model) and memorized the specs with a couple of questions jotted in my short term memory. But this Sears salesman was good. Like going to Dyson conferences good and I rebooted my Dyson dream and instead of the DC07..fell in love with the newest (in stores TODAY) Dyson Slim. Are you kidding? Same performance with the "ball" feature but light and skinny and crazy cool. But, I'm a reasonable person, and reason left me with an appreciation for any Dyson. We left with the Dc14! and my husband is currently vacuuming the carpet I just vacuumed this morning to see what this machine of machine's will pick up. It's just amazing when you get excited about collecting dirt. The ergonomic design lifetime HEPA filters help. I'm already a fan. The way I see it: it's an investment.

modern cribs

*Photo is the DucDuc crib, seen here

I'm borderline obsessed with the look and design of modern cribs. I love them and perused sites endlessly when we were looking to purchase one a year ago. Sadly, we couldn't afford the pricetag of Netto, Offi, Argington or Nurseryworks. That doesn't mean I haven't stopped looking at them though. I can't get enough. The shape, drawers, colors all draw me in and I can never choose which one I would actually like best. They are all so unique and offer a distinct style for your baby's room. My husband has to listen to me talk about it all the time. Someday, maybe.

I waited for someone {Target?} to come out with a cheaper version of the modern-day crib at a more affordable price. I never found one. Ikea showcases this one, but the low price actually makes me question the product {and I don't like it}. Then, a couple months ago I found this one. Wal-Mart. Who would've guessed? Not I. I'm not a huge fan of the slats on the white sides, but it's definitely headed in the right direction, I think. In fact, the whole room looks very chic and well put together if I can say. You can view the whole collection here {dresser, changing table, crib}.

I'm not changing my nursery anytime soon. And I still gawk at the cribs here on Design Public {they carry every brand of modern crib available} but for others looking for the simple look without the hefty price tag, I'd venture a guess to start at Wal-Mart.

Comfortable Seating

Nobody likes a sore and tired bum. Not even kids. In Kelli's post below, she displayed the elephant wall art along with the fatboy lounge chair. Perfect for allowing kids to lay back, make themselves comfortable while reading or watching a movie.

But, I'm currently loving the Poof Chairs. It gives little bums a place to sit while at the table. They've got modern prints atop the poof and colorful designs to match any nursery or playroom. I think I like the elephant best.

$78 at Zac and Zoe.

FYI

April is filled with holidays {or at least days to celebrate}. We've got Easter {usually in April}, Earth Day {April 22nd} and this year? Ben and Jerry's Free Cone Day is on April 17th. So, click here to find the closest B&J's near you to get some free ice cream. Treat yourself and give your little best friend a lick as well. They'll love it {as I'm certain you will too}.
