souvenier?

We've gone over rides, characters and food, which leaves one major thing. Souvenirs. Do you buy them for you? or your kids? What do you get them? Do you let them choose? Or do you choose for them? Or do you skip them all together?

I want to choose, but Ryan is the nice parent and lets the kids choose. They chose snow globes. They are obsessed with snow globes. I probably would have chosen something different.

In fact they may end up with souvenirs they didn't even know they had.

Tell me your souvenir of choice and earn an extra entry in tomorrow's giveaway!

  3. Depends on where we are if we go with the souveniers, and if I let them pick it out. (they get a price limit). I still have a bear I got at Yellowstone when I was 5, so I think they can make for a great memory, but I dont think we need to get one every time we go to the zoo.

  4. We are the same way - my husband says let them choose, I want to control it! So ... we go his way, but I kindly guide them!

  5. I actually love snow gloges (small ones)! We also buy mugs as we seem to have a never-ending mug collection.

  6. I think we would have chosen a book if they had them there, but we love snowglobes and cups as well, so it would be a toss up between those last two if anything.

  8. Gigantic rainbow lollipop. Just kidding. I like the small character figurines that can be played with in cars, planes, or just around the house.

  9. Last Spring when we went to Disney World, Madeleine saved up her Christmas money so she could buy a princess dress in the little shop right behind Cinderella's Castle... we followed the dress fitting with lunch at Cinderella's Royal Table, a dream come true for our little one!

  10. I would be more inclined to buy something everyday wearable like a sweatshirt. My hubby is like yours and would tell me to let the kids pick, so I think we would compromise and I would tell the kids what type of item they could have andthey can pick within those selections.

  12. Usually I skip the whole souveneir thing, but this year we just purchased a christmas tree ornament, which I"m sure we will enjoy this Christmas!

  14. I'd probably have to try really hard not to buy the cliche t-shirt although a vintage Mickey t-shirt would be awesome.

I'd at least buy a mug for my collection.

  15. Definitely the old time favorite - Mickey Mouse ears. I still have mine!

  16. My little girls always get to pick a hat and one toy. We let them choose. My 5 year old little girl surrounded by princesses picked a pirate set this year! I love to see what impulsive choice they make, it is so fun.

  17. when we go on wednesday, i'll definitely let my kiddos choose a little something to bring home.

  18. I haven't taken my kiddos...but I loved the figures when I was a kid and I also love magnets. They are fun to play with and pretty sturdy.

  19. When I was around 7 or 8 I decided that I would collect keychains when we went somewhere. Now I have a giant bulletin board covered with keychains at my parents' house, and no idea what I'm going to do with them all.

But deciding on something to collect meant that my extended family would bring me a present when they went someplace fun, which was cool.

  21. Each time we go we let the kids get a sweatshirt, we always buy it right before the late night parade so they have something cozy to put on and then we sit on the sidewalk with some yummy fudge until the parade starts.

  22. I keep a sterling silver charm bracelet with charms from special events or trips. Started on my 9th birthday and I'm on my third bracelet. I hope it will be an heirloom. My little boy is three and not into souvenirs yet, but I mightt suggest a couple of items that will have more lasting meaning than a keychain. Snowglobes are the worst, but maybe a figurine, a patch, a trading pin, or simply a postcard to build a collection.

  23. I'd probably get Mickey and Minnie ears for my kids, just because I wanted a pair so badly when I was little.

  24. Can't leave without the Mickey ears. I give the kids a set amount of cash at the beginning of the trip and tell them they can spend as they please. Some spend it all on treats. Others use it to buy something a little more lasting. Bonus: they are not constantly asking me for things!!

  25. I always buy really beautiful Christmas ornaments as souvenirs because they don't clutter up my kids' rooms, my kids don't tire of them after a week, and they get excited to remember all of the places we've visited when we decorate the tree every year. Plus, if you buy good quality ornaments (not the cheap stuff) your kids will use them to decorate their own trees when they're grown.

  26. I've not been able to take my kids to disneyland yet, but I'm sure they'd love a sweatshirt to keep them warm and a yummy treat from the candy shop.

  27. I give them a money limit and let them choose. When we go at Christmas time we choose an ornament as a family.

  28. My son earned his money so he got to choose, but it killed me! I wanted him to get a hat with his name so bad but he refused and bought FOUR GUNS with his $60 hard-earned money. Ugh.

  29. I bought a really cute Christmas ornament in Orlando last year. It was rustic looking and looks perfect on my tree!

  30. the mickey hats from the mad hatter store and our names embroidered on it.

We also get a new figurine set from the super rad store on mainstreet. My girls LOVE them and they have a large selection you can't find other places.

Bret and I usually get a patch from the places we've been. We started it while dating and traveling and we love looking at all the patches we have now.

  32. My souvenirs of choice are the mickey hat with my name on the back,a Christmas ornament or getting our silhouettes done on Main St.

  33. Last time I got a bag, which I actually use. I don't really use the Mickey ears once I leave the park :)

  34. When I was there as a little girl I got a stuffed mini mouse doll. I loved it.

  35. I let them pick. But, I am like you I would rather pick for them. My favorite souvenir from disney was a pair of sterling silver tinker bell earrings. I got them when I was 14. I still have one that I am saving for my daughter, to put on a necklace.

  36. I always go for a tshirt/sweatshirt of some sort. Something I'd never get from Disneyland is those leashes that make it look like you're walking an imaginary dog. What a waste of twenty bucks!

    ReplyDelete
  37. My fav is a sweatshirt or a t-shirt so I can wear them again!

  38. We try to find the pressed penny machines. Our girls have collected them every place we can find them-they pick the picture and get to make their penny with daddy. Plus, it only costs 51-53 cents. And, easy to store!

  39. Our latest Disney souvenier were those big Mickey hands that the workers are wearing when you enter the park...with a little steering from me!

    ReplyDelete
  40. We always get postcards. They make for a cheap collectible for my son (and they aren't breakable.) Plus it helps him remember places we've been with a photo.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I haven't been to Disneyland with my kids yet...I want to!!! I am usually the one who says no, but my husband is a softie and lets them choose!

    ReplyDelete
  42. We went to disneyland last month and i bought a cute minnie with a blanket for my baby...I wish I would've bought another one for me!!

  43. A disney book and some disney pajamas. Perfect. And the book will keep easier then other hard-to-store "memories."

  44. I think it is fun to let them get a book (timeless) or a Christmas ornament. Now while I wouldn't want a tree full of Disney myself, it seems like kids love this and it would be their personalization and memory on the tree.

  45. i have only been to disney world, and it was when i was a kid. and i didn't get a souvenir, but if i did, it would have definitely been the mickey ears with my name on it.

  46. For my little ones, I get a plush toy and for my nieces and nephews I bring home Mickey suckers. They absolutely loved them! ~Holly Georgeson

  47. I think everyone needs a mickey hat, but that's about all I ever buy.

  48. Did you do the autograph book? That's always a good one, especially the ones that have places for pictures too. And a t-shirt with the year on it. My daughter got to pick her own souvenir when we went last summer (she was 3 1/2) and she picked a princess plate and silverware set. Yes, I think you can find that at any Target, but she was thrilled with it!

  49. T-shirts. I hate clutter and everything else just seems to take up space. OCD? I know.

  50. i would get an ornament for the christmas tree. each vacation or new place we go, we get a new something something for our tree. it's a fun reminder of our adventures together. tara w

  51. My souvenir disappears soon after we get home. Since I was a kid, I always wanted to get the huge lollipops and lick them until my tongue got sore, but the one time that I went to Disneyland as a child, my family was counting the pennies to just get in the gate. So, when I married and we took our children to the park, I got them a lollipop. It was a fun treat and well worth the wait!

  53. I got a stuffed Dalmation when I went as a kid, and I still have it. I always thought the Mickey ears with your name embroidered on it looked fun.

  54. We're not big into souvenirs here. I think the memories (and the pictures) will last longer than any product ever could. :)
