Olivia
"This is Olivia. She is good at lots of things."
I often judge a book by its cover (hopefully, just books). Especially books for my daughter. Isn't art paramount in a children's book? As soon as I saw the cover of Olivia I had to add it to Isobel's library.
The illustrations are to die for, although the text is witty and charming itself. Written and illustrated by Ian Falconer (an artist for the The New Yorker), the book is simple, modern and full of creative flair. Only shades of black and splashes of red adorn the white background.
Olivia. When I paid for my goods, the lady at the register commented that even she, an elder woman with no kids at home, had added it to her collection.
We bought the board book. I recommend it.

Olivia Saves the Circus is our very favorite in the collection. My kids love her great imagination and egocentric way of seeing the world. You'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI saw this last time I was at Barnes and Noble. Board books are a BIG thing in our house...Ave loves them. I'll have to get it next time. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI love Olivia.
ReplyDeleteThis would be darling gift to someone that had a baby and named her Olivia.
ReplyDeleteyou have to look up jellybeans by Sylvia van Ommen. The illustrations are perfect and the story is hilarious. I could read it for my own enjoyment!
ReplyDeleteI've seen the Olivia books on sale on the Powell's website - great additions to your library at a great price (plus so many other choices, it will boggle your mind). Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi there, you know I have a friend who just had a girl and she has named her Olivia do you guys think it will be offensive to her if I include this board book of "OLIVIA" in her gift basket ??? Help me decide ???
ReplyDeleteThanks
Zobars, I don't think it would be offensive. I think it would be thoughtful and cute! Go for for it!
ReplyDeleteZobars: I agree with Lindsey. Monogramming or personalized gifts are a trend...because of their sentimentality. Although giving Olivia and Olivia book might seem a LITTLE silly, imagine how much fun the little girl will have with a book named after HER. I think it's cute idea to include. {Especially with a handwritten note from you on the inside.}
ReplyDeleteLOVE Olivia! Great choice Lindsey.
ReplyDeleteGreat illustrations and stories.
