Garden in a Milk Carton

This is a great way to reuse and recycle our milk cartons. I did it when I was in college and it turned out really well. I wish I still had the pictures, but I can't find them.

It is a great {and inexpensive} activity for kids and our babies would surely love to be outside while we potted the plants.

Needs:
1 empty milk carton, soil, flowers {or seedlings}

Instructions:
1. Wash out an empty 1/2-1 gallon milk carton
2. Safely cut half the plastic (or cardboard) off so you have a base to put the soil and plants in. You want it at least 6 inches tall so the plants have enough room to establish roots in the soil.
3. Put in soild so it fills about 2/3 of the milk carton.
4. If you are using seeds, just put your finger in about an inch deep, fill with seeds and cover with soil over it. I would put several seeds in one hole and then put 5-6 holes around the carton filling each with seeds. Remember only to go about a fingertip {about an inch} down into the soil.
5. Water your plants and keep them in sunglight and watch your flowers come alive!

*You can use already grown flowers, but it is a little more fun to actually watch your flowers sprout and grow!

  1. This is a fun idea. I also saw it (just last night, actually) in Ben and Jerry's cartons. Both would be cute.
